FAQ & Helpful Information

What services do you offer?

I offer complete fashion shoot packages and licensing. See my list of specific services here.

How do you price your services?

There are many things that go into pricing out a shoot. First, we need to find out if you need a full production package or just a photographer. Once we have established a budget for your custom photoshoot, we will discuss, rates, production needs, and image licensing. One size does not fit all, we will custom tailor a package that best fits your needs.

Licensing confuses me, how does it work?

Licensing isn’t as scary as it sounds. Think of licensing a bit like renting a house. The photographer is the landlord, we own the images, (AKA their copyright), but rent them out to you. A licensing agreement is much like a rental agreement; it tells you how and where you can use the images, as well as the duration.

But I paid you to take the photos, don’t I own them all?

Unfortunately, that is not how the system works. In order to maintain consistency and legality, the photographer always owns all the images (AKA their copyright), we then rent or “license” them out to you. In a rare situation, the client may opt to “buy out” the entire shoot. This is akin to buying the house, rather than just renting, and comes at a premium price. In most cases, a licensing agreement is the best way to go.

Can I have the RAW images?

This will depend on the type of package you choose. Some clients will opt for their own in-house retouching and will need specific raw files in order to do this, this must be discussed before the shoot. Clients who opt for fully retouched images, will receive only the final retouched images as a high resolution jpeg. The whole catalog of images is always available for browsing, but clients will not receive all of the raw images, just the specific images they have chosen to license. If a client wants to do a buyout and own the copyright to all the raw images, this can be discussed but will come a premium price.

What if I do my own retouching, can I have the RAW images?

Please let me do what I do best! I am happy to work with any style or color grading you desire. This is why we have our initial design meetings. Doing your own retouching will not lower the cost of your photoshoot, but will likely lower the quality of your final images. My work is of the highest caliber, this is why you want to hire me.

Specific RAW files may be transferred if the client does professional in-house retouching; this is rare and solely at the discretion of the photographer. Such situations must be written into the original contract.

Who is your team?

My production team is made up of some of the best working professionals in the industry. All team members have been vetted and are top quality. Team members vary depending on location and availability. I am happy to provide their portfolios and references.

What sets you apart from other fashion photographers?

I handle everything so you don’t have to. I offer years of experience, full production services including branding strategy, beauty and style experts, unique locations, equipment, licensing, legal agreements, liability insurance, retouching and more.

Do you have a specific process? What equipment do you use?

I work almost exclusively with natural light and I prefer small shoot teams and real world locations. This allows me to shoot quickly and efficiently with no unnecessary equipment or personnel expenses. I often hear that clients expect photographers to have huge production teams, tons of equipment, expensive cameras, and lots of flashy add-ons. I think this is a waste of everyone’s energy. Shooting my way means we can do more in less time and you save money!

What results can I expect from working together?

I am committed to making this a fun, professional, and painless process. This means that you can expect a courteous environment, an organized photoshoot and beautiful images delivered on time.

How long does it take? What is the process?

There are three main steps:

Pre-production: This includes branding strategy, research, making moodboards, location scouting, hiring the team, booking models, pulling permits, creating shooting schedules, logistics, etc.

Shooting: This is the actual photo shoot, which can range anywhere from an afternoon, to several days, and may include travel time.

Post-production: In post-production, I will send you a link to all the images, allowing you to make your final selects. Then, all selected images will be retouched and color corrected. This process can take days for minimal corrections or weeks depending on the number of images and detail required for the retouching. I do much of the retouching along with my team of vetted professional retouchers. Finally, you will be asked to approve the images or send them back for further corrections. Once the images are finalized and transferred, the completed invoice will be sent for billing.

Where are you located? Where do you shoot?

I am based in Los Angeles, California, but I am constantly traveling. I primarily shoot in Southern California, Colorado, Mexico, and Southern Italy, but I can be booked to shoot anywhere in the world, just ask!

Do you shoot a specific style of fashion?

My style is very colorful and romantic, with a whimsical vintage vibe and a touch of the candid moment. I am happy to do a brand consultation to see if we are a good match.

Do you shoot headshots?

No, this isn’t my specialty. I am happy to shoot creative portraits, but I do not shoot traditional headshots.

Do you shoot studio images?

Sometimes. I am traditionally a natural light and location based photographer. For the right client, I can occasionally be persuaded to shoot studio work. There are many natural light studios available and many have beautiful sets. In the case that a natural light studio is not available or appropriate, I will hire a lighting assistant to ensure you get the best images.

I would like some non-fashion images for my marketing. Can you shoot travel or location images to go with my fashion photos?

Yes! I am happy to shoot extra images or “B-Roll” while we are on location, or you can license images from my current portfolio. Click here to see a sample from my travel portfolio.

Do you handle permits?

Yes. Many places, such as Los Angeles and Palm Springs have strict permitting regulations regarding commercial shoots. I am happy to obtain all the permits we need to have a successful and lawful shoot.

Do you handle model releases?

Models working with an agency will likely have their own agency approved releases, where as non-represented models will expect this to be provided. Depending on the model, I will ensure all proper and legally binding model releases have been signed.

Is body image, model health, and model diversity something you consider when booking models?

Yes! Fashion is changing and so are the models. I strive to work with beautiful, healthy models of all sizes, genders and ethnicities. Many of the models I shoot are also vegan and can be booked specifically for vegan companies.

I like one of the models in your portfolio, can we shoot with them?

Absolutely! All of the models in my portfolio are fully vetted and wonderful to work with. Shooting with them is usually possible, but subject to availability and location. Normally, arrangements can be made or a model with a very similar look can be found.

Do you only work with sustainable and ethical brands?

Ideally! If it comes down to choosing, I will always choose to work with brands that put the environment and ethics first. This is one of the reasons I love working with slow fashion companies, and sustainable swimwear!

What about fur?

Faux fur is fabulous, but please leave real fur on the animals. I will not shoot real fur, including vintage fur.

Do your makeup/hair artists use vegan and cruelty free brands?

Makeup artists are independent contractors and I cannot always ensure that they have vegan and cruelty free brands available. When in doubt, a makeup budget can always be included to provide the makeup artists with ethical products for the shoot. Fortunately, most of the makeup artists I hire already use ethical brands or can be asked to use only ethical brands.

I love one of the images in your portfolio are they available for licensing or fine art prints?

Of course! Please just ask. There are also many images that are not on my website but are available to purchase or license. I would be thrilled to share them with you and see if we can find a perfect fit.
